Color Guard – I believe you’ve already handed in your uniforms. If not, please contact Leanne.
- The Marching Band uniforms need to be taken to BOSTON TAILORED CLEANERS at 36 Tremont Street # A.
- The uniforms are all cleaned in one batch, so they can’t do them until EVERY LAST UNIFORM is there. Please bring them in to Boston Tailored by January 19th.
- A note from the cleaners: please check all pockets to make sure you are not forgetting something.
- There are actually 4 pieces to each uniform. Please make sure they are all there: sash, jacket, snap in collar on jacket, and pants.
- The uniform cleaning will cost $19 which you will pay when you drop it off. The uniforms will be stored by Boston Tailored and then delivered directly to the school right before marching season.
- Please bring your red uniform bag and the cleaning receipt in to Mr. Repucci so we can keep track of them.
Mr. Repucci was awarded with a “Schoolhouse Rock Star” certificate through the Melrose Education Foundation today. The certificate says:
“From the band and Bandaiders in recognition of your dedication to your students and their families and your many contributions to the Melrose school community.”
Hello MVMMS Band Families,
A big “Congratulations!” to all the Band students for a fantastic concert last night! They had very little time together as a combined Band and worked very hard in a short amount of time to bring it all together. They did a great job navigating the many challenges involved in merging each individual grade into the full Band. When executed as well as they did, these things are never even known by an audience. I applaud them for this big success!
I hope the students will take away the lesson of how multiple levels and phases of both preparation and teamwork – from individual practice at home, working with partners, as a class at each grade level, and finally as a combined group – can all come together for such a great final product/presentation. It is a truly rewarding experience for me to see all their hard work come together as it did last night.
Best wishes for the New Year!
Congratulations on an awesome tree sale!
Many thanks to Dave Pezzini, new band superhero (Head of the tree sale by day/ treasurer by night). He led the tree sale and managed a truck delay and snowstorm until the last tree was sold this morning. And all with a smile! You deserve a break!
Behind Dave was a group of dedicated volunteers and alumni parents who spent hours preparing, selling and cleaning up. Thank you to the students who showed up at 7 or much earlier Saturday to get the trees off of the absent truck. You were very patient and I know very tired. We couldn’t do it without you. Thanks to the people who got up on Sunday and said let’s go back to help.
A special shout-out to our new publicity maven, Karolyn Ormond, who stirred the Melrose public into a frenzy on social media over the trees being scooped up at an amazing pace. If you are not on these pages, let’s just say people have been posting pictures of their trees with “best tree ever” and “well worth waiting for the truck to arrive” notes.
Click here for some photos of the sale.
If you have more pictures, please put them up on flickr from the band website.
Job well done!
The Tree Sale sign-ups are open for second shifts. If you have not signed up for your first shift, please do. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need everyone’s help.
Thank you very, very much! Here is the link to the SIGN UP GENIUS:
Adult Bow Making evening (bows for decorating the wreaths at the sale)
We could use some more friends helping to make bows on Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm at the Sikkemas (338 E. Foster Street). The more the merrier. You DO NOT need to already know how to do this. Please RSVP to Kelly at firstname.lastname@example.org. Drop in for whatever amount of time fits your schedule.
Holiday Music at tree sale
Students, if you are interested to play holiday music during the sale, get a small group together, there is holiday music in the Band’s Google Classroom folder.
Community Service Opportunity
A small Melrose nursing home would be interested in small groups coming to play holiday music for them. They can be flexible around your schedule. If you are interested, email email@example.com to let me know and I will get you all of the details.
Marching Band: You sounded and looked awesome at Gillette! Several football families have taken the time to reach out and tell us how much they appreciate the band and what an integral part of the game days/nights you are!
Middle School band member play participants: Congratulations on a job well done with Once On This Island!
AND FINALLY… Congratulations Charlie Stanton (Bari Sax player in your free time) on leading the Melrose Football team to it’s first Super Bowl win! We are all proud of you!
HANG ON TO YOUR UNIFORMS
EVENTUALLY we will ask you to take your uniform to a specific dry cleaner to get cleaned (they clean the uniforms all together). However, hang on to them for right now just in case there is a football championship celebration.

Christmas Tree Sale 2017
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We use the money to help the band with senior scholarships, equipment, color guard uniforms and flags, miscellaneous band supplies, and more. The Tree Sale is a huge undertaking and requires many student and adult volunteers. We ask that everyone sign up for at least one shift.
Again this year — Initial Sign Ups: Please sign up for only one shift during the initial sign up (Nov 29 & 30). This is to ensure that everyone can find at least one shift that works for them. Starting Dec. 1, you may sign up for multiple shifts.
PLEASE REMEMBER: The trees arrive on Friday between 2:30 and 3:00 and we need ALL students (and many parents) to unload the trucks. It takes about an hour or so.
Regarding Sunday: We need the most help on Friday and Saturday. We sometimes sell-out by Saturday night. If extra help is needed on Sunday, however, we will send an email. Please pencil an additional shift onto your calendar for Sunday morning if possible.

Hello Elementary Band Families,
Youth Band starts next Monday! If you haven’t signed up yet and plan to participate, please do, so that I can have a folder and music prepared for you at the first rehearsal.
Students can be dropped off at the main entrance to the Middle School. There will be signs posted to help them get to the Band room. I know that sometimes students get a little nervous about having to walk into the Middle School; to help with that, here is a short video that shows where to go.
There has a been some confusion about the time; I apologize for that. Here is the official correction.
Rehearsals will be from 2:45 – 3:45 pm
I will send out the carpooling info to those who signed up before Thanksgiving to allow some extra time for any who still need to sign up.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving, and I look forward to seeing everyone next week!
Thank you everyone for braving the cold this weekend to support the team and honor our Veterans. You did a great job!
Hello Band Families,
Youth Band will be starting the Monday after Thanksgiving! All Melrose Band students with at least one year of experience on their instrument are invited to participate. There is NO additional fee for participating in Youth Band.
