The MHS Football team has made the playoffs, so there will be a home football game this coming weekend (10/27). Same schedule as the other games, band members should plan on reporting to the band room at 6:00 pm.
And there is the Reading Competition on Saturday. Arrive for practice at noon. Loading buses @3:00, departing @3:10, performance is scheduled for 5:05. See email and events for details.
From Mr. Repucci:
Hello Melrose Band Families,
I want to thank everyone – parents, students, alumni, friends – who helped out with the Home Show last weekend. It was a great night and everything ran so smoothly and professionally. Thank you to Joel Zimmerman for organizing the whole event! The Band played great. I am really happy with how our young group is doing this year! See you all soon.
From Crystal Olwert (Bandaiders President):
Hi Band Families,
I would like to thank you all for your support in making our NESBA Home Competition a success! We could not have pulled it off without the help of our current band parents, alumni parents, students, and faculty! We had many compliments throughout the evening and even emails sent from band directors thanking us for such a smooth competition and for being gracious hosts.
A huge, special THANK YOU goes to Joel Zimmerman who has so graciously chaired this event for several years! You have done a wonderful job keeping things organized and going with the flow when necessary. You will be greatly missed next year, maybe you can come by and say hi!
Thank you all again!
and finally from Joel Zimmerman:
Thank you for helping at the competition last Saturday. It was a great success due to your hard work. We had a wonderful mix of newcomers, veterans, alumnae, and students that pulled together to get all the various chores covered.
I received very nice emails from two band directors that I would like to share with you:
On behalf of the Everett Marching Band I want to extend thanks for a well run contest Saturday evening. Your parents association did a fabulous job throughout. Always a pleasure participating in this event.
Your people did a GREAT job. They were friendly, and welcoming, and knew what to do and where to go – I never lacked for direction, or information.
Please extend my sincere thanks to the Melrose Bandaiders and the students who helped out. What a wonderful time we all had!!
On that note, I’ll finish with my appreciation for everyone stepping up and taking care of each task. I hope you had a good time wherever you were located during the competition. Looking forward to having more time to talk the next time I see you!

On Saturday, October 14th, Whittemore Hardware, located at 531 Main Street, Melrose will host a fundraiser to support the Melrose High School Winter Guard Team.
During regular business hours, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Whittemore Hardware will donate 10% of all sales to the Melrose High School Winter Guard Team.
Whether you are in need of household hardware items for home improvement, keys, locks, hinges, cleaning products, fall cleanup supplies, or you’d like to get a jump on winter products, please stop by on Saturday.
Thanks for your support!
We have Citywide Band Night on Thursday and we ask a handful of bakers to bring some treats for the kids attending the evening.
Please let us know what you will bring to Citywide Band Night by clicking here.
****Our larger plea is for everyone to bring some baked goods for the bake sale at the competition on Saturday. We’ve been told many times that Melrose is known for the great bake sale at the competition. How can we not deliver?
We ask that every student bring 2 dozen individually wrapped items (in a quantity to be sold for $1) that are labeled if containing allergens or if they are particularly allergen free (nut-free, gluten free, vegan, etc.).
Our bake sale at the MSO was so successful that we SOLD OUT within minutes of the start of the concert. If everyone contributes, this is an easy way to fundraise. Remember all of the money we raise goes right back to funding the things the instrumentalists and color guard really need to put on their show and general support through the rest of the year.
Please let us know what you will bring to the Home Competition on Saturday by clicking here.
Thank you! (This will help us get a variety of different items.)
And don’t forget about other opportunities to volunteer at this weekends Home Competition. Click here for more information.
We need all hands on board for this competition. None of the jobs are difficult, but are necessary to make this a successful competition. This is one of our largest fundraisers and helps fund everything from instrument repair to color guard flags and everything else in between.
